Liver cancer: these foods that reduce the risks

In some cases, this type of disease develops as a result of having a chronic liver disease1.
Secondly, t is not completely possible to protect yourself from the development of liver cancer, but a healthy and balanced diet may lessen the progression of fibrosis or steatosis.

My Liver Exam looks back on some types of foods that are associated with reduced risk of progressing to liver cancer.

Vegetables: essential assets to stay healthy

All vegetables have multiple benefits. Some families have been shown to be effective in fighting the development of cancer cells. Indeed, vegetables belonging to the cruciferous family (broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts) or chenopodiaceous (beets, spinach) would have certain virtues to reduce the occurrence of cancer. Vegetables also act as regulators in the event of excessive consumption of red meat, which tends to favor the development of cancer cells2.

Our advice: Consider promoting organic vegetables better for health.

Tomatoes are also your allies. It is lycopene, a powerful agent in the fight against cancer cells, which gives them a red color. The effectiveness of lycopene is maximal if the tomato has been cooked in the presence of fat, such as olive oil.

Berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries)

According to a research study conducted by Richard Béliveau and Denis Gingras3, some fruits would constitute formidable allies to preserve his health and to reduce the risks of cancer. Strawberries, raspberries and blueberries would have healing properties.
It is ellagic acid, a molecule massively present in most berries, which would bring its antioxidant benefits.

Spices and herbs

Spices and herbs could limit the development of cancer cells. Cloves, fennel, oregano, garlic, cinnamon would be very valuable in reducing the risk of cancer.
Ginger, on the other hand, is a root with potent anti-inflammatory properties. According to a study conducted at the University of Michigan Cancer Center4, it would protect and stimulate full liver activity, soothes certain ailments (nausea, migraine).

Garlic and other alliaceous

The presence of sulfur compounds in garlic would effectively combat the development of cancer cells. Sulfur activates hepatic enzymes contributing to the elimination of toxins in the body (on this subject, read our article on the natural detoxification of the liver). In this family, alliances, onions, leeks, shallots or chives would be equally effective in eliminating harmful cells5.

In conclusion, an adapted and healthy diet thus makes it possible either to limit the effects of the cancer or to limit its appearance, thanks to the properties of certain foods. We encourage you to seek advice from a nutritionist.
